Office 2002 vs 2003 Setup

J

JCO

Okay, I reinstalled Photo Editor from my Office 2002 CD.
Good thing I didn't get rid of that CD. Hate to have to keep both. Silly
that Photo Editor can't be in the 2003 CD, but I guess the brains at MS are
suppose to know what they are doing.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I actually uninstalled everything then installed the
2003 version. I was upset at the fact that PhotoEditor was removed from the
2003 options. After doing some other research, it turns out that many other
people like PhotoEditor too. Therefore, they recommend putting in the older
version CD (2002) and install only PhotoEditor by itself. This is what I
did.

Everything works fine and no information was lost.
Why did they take PhotoEditor out? Any one else have this same issue?

Hi JCO,

If you install Office 2003, even though not an upgrade package, it will
ask you if you want to replace the Office XP/2002 apps with
the 2003 ones. If you choose custom setup rather than 'normal' setup you
can choose specific details of features and apps. Before
starting and after installation of the 2003 edition check in Add/Remove
programs to see if you have more than one listing remaining
for Microsoft Office 2000, XP, 2002 and 2003 apps. Installing a new
version usually doesn't remove any apps that don't have a
replacement in the new version.

Note that the only differences between the upgrade and 'full product
package' editions are (a) price and (b) that the upgrade
version looks for an older version when installing/reinstalling.

As Warner suggested, as with any major upgrade of software backing up your
data first as a safety point is a good idea.

programs to see if you have more than one listing remaining
for Microsoft Office 2000, XP, 2002 and 2003 apps.

Hi All,

Thank you for the suggestions.

Actually Photo Editor will be removed when you upgrade to Office 2003 from
Office 2002. Microsoft has replaced Photo Editor with a new photo editing
and cataloging program in Office 2003: Microsoft Office Picture Manager. If
you really want to install this feature on the computer, I suggest you
consider the following workaround method.

1. Insert the Microsoft Office XP CD-ROM into your computer's CD-ROM or
DVD-ROM drive.
2. If the Office XP Setup program does not start automatically, follow
these steps:
a. Click Start, and then click Run.
b. In the Open box, type drive:\Setup.exe, where drive is the letter of
your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.

3. Start to step through the Setup process, and then select Customize for
the type of Setup to perform.
4. When you reach the Selecting Features step, set each node of the Setup
tree to Not Available.
5. Under Features to install, expand Office Tools.
6. Click Microsoft Photo Editor, and then click Run from My Computer.
7. Click Install Now.
8. Click OK when Office XP Setup has completed successfully.
