Office 2002/XP

I'm trying to uninstall Office 2002 from WinXP (Add/Remove Programs) and it says there's already an installation in progress and to finish it first. When I run Office 2002 CD system just hangs so I cannot go that way either. I want to install a fresh copy of Office 2002 and I cannot get rid of the installed version of Office 2002 I've already got installed. Help!

If you open Task Manager, do you see other instances of setup running?
