Office 2003 can't edit network docs + s'sheets

I

IT Guy

I access network docs & s'sheets OK with Office 2K in Win2K, but these docs &
s'sheets appear as read-only when opened with a new PC running XPsp2 + Office
2003. The user logon is the same and the doc + s'sheet permissions have not
changed.

What do I need to do to allow editing these docs etc?

It could be a permissions issue where
Office is trying to write temporary files
or it could be left over temporary files
that the Office apps are finding that
tell it that the document is still 'in use'.

You can try using the setting for making
a local copy in Tools=>Options=>Save in
Word then opening a document and also
use Start=>Search and look for the string
~$*.*;*.tmp
on the local and network drive while
Word and Excel are not running to
see if you find abandoned temp/lock files.
