Office 2003 editions mix-up

elcia

Is it possible to install applications from two different Office 2003
editions on one desktop? For example: Word and Excel from Office 2003
Professional and Outlook from the Office 2003 Basic edition?

Do those applications use Office features from their own editions in such
case (esp. IRM)?

Hi Elcia,

Whit it's possible to do this, it's generally not a practical approach, especially when Outlook is in both of the 2003 Editions you
mentioned, and also uses two product licenses (although Basic Edition is tied permanently to the machine its first installed on).

After backing up your files, set a Restore Point in Windows. If you then uninstall the Basic Edition, restart the PC then install
the Office 2003 Professional Edition to the same folder you should be okay and it will be easier/cleaner to maintain with updates.

Hi Bob,
thanks for the information!

It is not my purpose to install apps from two different editions. I'm just
trying to spot possible reasons for RMS not working in Outlook and working in
Excel and Word. I wondered if our admins could install only the later in Pro
edition and leave the OEM Outlook in Basic edition.
However, I was not sure how the IRM features would work in such setting.
