Office 2003 - Outlook

Bubey

Anyone tried Outlook 2003. I use hotmail but would like the functionality
of Outlook. i.e.,
Calendar especially. I don't want to have to buy Ofc 2003 as I don't really
need it. Does
Outlook 2003 come as a separate program? I presently have Ofc2000 Prof. Or
is there
any other software out there that will send/receive Hotmail (http) and give
me the Calendar,
Address Book, functions? TNX

Lots of folks have tried it and like it a lot. You can purchase a
standalone Outlook 2003 but for about twice as much, you can get Office
Standard which includes Word (a must if you want to use Word for sending
Outlook messages), Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

What I need to know specifically is how it works with Hotmail ? Outlook has
always been
a Pop3 mail and now they say Hotmail will work the same? But will it be
directly into
Outlook like a Pop3 e-mail or will it be like the work-around using Outlook
2000 where
you actually end up going to the Hotmail. com site ? The Hotmail.com site
is very slow
to use and now very time efficient. Too much having to go back and forth to
do what
can be done so much faster with Outlook or Outlook Express. Hotmail.com is
more
for newbie's or people who don't use Ofc. Outlook and Outlook Express is
for
power users. I've already got Ofc 2000 Professional and it works for me so
I don't
want to get Ofc 2003 unless the Outlook is really what I want and need.

If it still works the old way, anyone got a suggestion as to another Contact
Mgr or
PIM that works with Hotmail? TNX

Thanks, but this applies to Outlook 2002 or 2003. I have 2000 and have been
able
to make Hotmail work with it but only via the actual Web Base Mail which is
way
too slow. I was thinking of upgrading to Outlook 2003 but want to make sure
it will work like a pop3 type mail or is it just the same work around they
invented
with Outlook 2000? I'm not a business and really don't need to put out the
$'s
for upgrading. My Ofc 2000 works fine for my needs. So my other question
was if anyone could recommend a similar program to Outlook that would work
with Hotmail (http mail). TNX

Outlook 2003 will allow you to have more than one http account and it uses
Outlook's interface, not the hotmail page. It is stored as a separate .pst
file in Outlook. Outlook 2003 can be acquired as a standalone product -
there is no need to purchase the entire Office package. However, if you
wish to use Word as the mail editor, you will need the 2003 version of that
as well.

You may want to look into purchasing Office Standard Upgrade - there are
some pretty good bargains out there for the full Office package, versus just
Outlook which is ~$100 as a standalone product.

we upgraded to e2k3 in nov - came with ol2k3, which we're running along with rest of offic xp suite. no "word editor" option unless you install entire 2003 suite.

Correct, you must be using the same version of Outlook and Word for
integration to work.
