Office 2003 Won't Open When Clicked From a Folder

Suddenly... none of my office 2003 documents will open when double clicked
from a folder, such as My Documents...

I get an error as follows:

"Windows cannot find c:\path\path\filename Make sure you typed the name
correctly and then try again...."

The application will open, MS Word for example... and it throws an error as
follows:

"Word experienced an error trying to open this file. Try these
suggestions..."

and it says to check file permissions, etc....

All that is ok... I'm running ALL the latest patches and updated for Office
2003 AND Windows XP Pro...

How do you fix this ???

Well yes... clicking on help\activate from within says I am... and I ran
"repair" from help and the errors go away, but the documents don't load...
Word and Excel, etc. open, but no document appears... I can, however, open
them without any problem from within Word or Excel, etc. from the file menu
or by clicking the open icon in the tool bar...

Short of reinstalling I don't know what to do... thanks... t
