Astonished John

When booting the computer this morning, whilst the computer was loading the
start-up programs. I received the following error messages

1. Microsoft office word has encountered a problem and needs to close

The event log
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Microsoft Office 11
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 23/10/2007
Time: 10:46:38 AM
User: N/A
Computer: GROUCHO
Description:
Faulting application winword.exe, version 11.0.8169.0, stamp 465f2a40,
faulting module winword.exe, version 11.0.8169.0, stamp 465f2a40, debug? 0,
fault address 0x008dd0ac.

Then I had a series of errors saying it need to disable various addins
including: Flash paper, acrobat pdf maker and omnipage.

But with these items disabled it will still only open in safe mode.

I’ve given the computer a good telling off but that hasn't helped!
Please can someone give me some good advice.

any help will receive my thanks

Have you tried running "Detect and Repair" from the Help menu in word 2003?

If that doesn't help try Going to Start, Control Panel, Add-Remove Programs,
MS Office. Click the Change button and then Repair.

Yes I have run detect and repair from within Word and from the add & remove
programs, but the problem still occurs. I am tempted to re-install but I'm on
a slow internet connection and the updates take forever to download. Any
other suggestions?

Thanks John

Afraid not but you may want to down load the Office Service Pack 3 installer
file and burn it to a CD for future use. Perhaps you know some one wuth a
faster connection who will do this for you.

Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3)

I had the problem.
I was able to uninstall, and re-install Office, then add service packs
1&2
BUT NOT SP3.

HOWEVER,

A note from another user suggested deleting NORMAL.DOT which seemed to
fix it.

c:\documents and settings\username\application data\microsoft\templates

Possibly other locations too.
