Office 2004 crashes on startup

Just moved all files from mac G4 to new imac G5 via the Apple transfer
prompts over firewire.

Everything works great except every program in Office crashes instantly.

"ex_bad_access" or something like that is the top of error code.

Tried repairing permissions, disabling fonts, trashing ALL prefs,
reinstalling new Office.

Could this possibly be related to the other Office still installed, even
though computer is shut off? Was waiting to erase HD until I knew
everything was okay.

I did start it up to check and Office does work.

Wracking my brain on this one...

When I try reinstalling by using the assistant, it crashes right after I
enter key code.

If you create a new account on the Mac, does Office crash from there too
??

Logged in under a "test" name. This time, it crashed even opening the
assistant.

I have the same problem. and I did the same thing as you "moved all files
and applications from MacG4 to new iMacG5 via Apple transfer over firewire".
Everything worked fine for me except the Office2004 test drive had been
installed by default aas part of the OS install as well as my Office 2004
application from my old G4. To remove the 'test drive version I ran the add
remove office program. This is where my problems started. I then tried to
reinstall from my original Office 2004 disks and now get the same problem as
you. Help anybody.

I spent some time with Apple techs this AM. Problem for me might be
hardware failure. Took to Apple repair location just now.
I also could not boot up from Panther install disc, either. I would call
Apple on this.
Tech at repair center also said that Office is problematic when
transferred over this way.

Good luck!

Hey Kurt i know it is bad form to reply to your own message but after i
posted my plea for help I found the solution. Maybe it will help you. I used
the disk utility to repair permissions and everything was 'sweet'.

Thanks for getting back, this seems to be topic that has "stumped the
stars" up here.
Wish mine was that simple. First thing you do is repair permissions,
then you delve deeper - do FSCK, run disk repair program (like Disk
Warrior) do hardware test, etc.
Especially if the problem replicates when you set up a new user, you
begin to think that hardware is an issue.
The good news is, my problem is quite rare. In the 15 years + of Macs,
I've never had a hardware problem until now.

I've had a few (I was the sad owner of a Performa 6300: 3 motherboards
excahges, 2 for the hard drive).
I've had far more problems with the Dell around here though.
Additionally, Apple hasn't really had a bad serie for a while (keeping
fingers crossed).
The most likely piece of hardware to fail (all platforms) is the hard
drive. They WILL fail, the question is when.
