Office 2007 Enterprise applications Configuration screen on Vista

CaraHar

Hello,
I'm new to the forum and am in dire need of help with the most annoying
problem in the world!!!! I've installed Office 2007 Enterprise Edition on
Windows Vista. This was a completely CLEAN INSTALL for both Vista and
Office. Problem: EVERYTIME I start any Office 2007 app (word, excel, etc..)
I get a screen that states "Please wait while windows configures Office 2007
Enterprise"... a progress bar goes by.. then I get a larger screen that says
basically the same thing but takes a lot longer to complete the progress bar
on this window. (hope this is making sense). I've tried running the office
apps as administrator and I have tried a re-install of Office and the problem
persists. I have looked on all the websites I can google and no help
(although, according to multiple websites, the problem also seemed to happen
on WinXP and Office 2003- the solution for that didn't work for me on Vista
and Office 2007) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE (grovel grovel) Help!????

Hi,

I installed it on Vista (with UAC turned off) and do not see this problem.

If you see the Microsoft Installer when starting Office, it usually
means it can't find information in the User Profile. Every new user will
see this the first time they log on. Once they've entered their "user
details" they should NOT see the installer anymore. It's possible Office
is having trouble writing data to your user profile, not sure why?

Best thing to do is look at your Event logs in detail, you should see a
bunch off related errors that coincide with the exact time you started
Office. Post the exact text here.

Hi,

Thanks Gerry,

I have excactly the same issue, also with office enterprise 2007
when opening any application it first loads a regular setup bar, you
normally only see only, and ather that i get "Please wait while windows
configures Office 2007
Enterprise" for about 4-5 minutes!! Then the application opens. Very
annoying...!

Please help!

Should I reinstall with UAC turned on?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Neither of you have posted the information from your Event logs as I
requested below, so it's hard to help...

It's possible this is related to the "EULA" pop-up problem described
elsewhere in this forum. I've not seen either problem on my systems YET!

What exactly would you like to see. I have the same problem. It is consistant.

The only things in the event log that stick out are the following:

Detection of product '{90120000-0030-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}', feature 'WORDFiles' failed during request for component '{0638C49D-BB8B-4CD1-B191-051E8F325736}'

and

Detection of product '{90120000-0030-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}', feature 'ProductFiles', component '{6252B847-BADA-43D4-9252-E39767FA40A1}' failed. The resource 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pip\' does not exist.

Unfortunately like way too many MVP's you have missed the point. I did post
with Windows Mail if that make you feel better but had no reply.

I googled and found this thread (one of about 50 about the same problem). I
did not realize that Egghead would only send what I wrote. The original
post had to do with the problem of MS Office 2007 on Vista Ultimate needing
to configure every time you execute. I posted the event log info at the
request of another poster.

Hi Lloyd,
What exactly would you like to see.

Exactly what you posted.

I find it hard to understand why the other guys kept posting about the
problem, but didn't bother to post their Event logs when requested.
The only things in the event log that stick out are the following:

Detection of product '{90120000-0030-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}', feature 'WORDFiles' failed during request for component '{0638C49D-BB8B-4CD1-B191-051E8F325736}'

Very interesting! I don't know the magic solution straight away, but
this is the exact information the tech guys at Microsoft would need to
look into the problem.

These Events are basically saying bits of Office are missing from what's
defined in the original MSI file. Each "Edition" of office has a
different MSI file so it's possible this only affects certain editions
in certain configurations. I'm running Volume License Enterprise.

The first error is saying Word isn't installed properly, but this is
"normal" on first ever use by each user because they have not yet
entered their UserInfo.

The second error is saying you're .pip file type is not registered. the
..pip file type is a "Microsoft Office Settings File", so maybe it's
looking for the settings file and can't find it because the type is not
registered.

Can you tell me what's resides at the following registry keys on your box.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pip
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PIPFile

if the keys don't exist at all, say so. I am able to see them on my
Vista box.

Please can you remind me your full computer configuration, where you got
the Office media, how you installed it, exact edition etc.

You might be better of using NNTP if it's available to you. EggHeadCafe
doesn't look very good and anyway .NET is a terrible Framework.

Ok the two registry keys you indicate are not found in my registry.

I am using Vista Ultimate. The Office Media was purchase at Best Buy in
Canada. The first time I installed it I installed the whole works out of
curiousity. Then I started at the top with Access and started down the list
just taking a peek. At that time I just thought that the first time you use
each of the applications it would do that. After looking at each one
(Groove just died) I went back to Word to look at my resume and it wanted to
configure again (and again ...).

Other things within that whole experience. I after each test of the install
, uninstalled (I thought) Office 2007. Well I notice that some settings I
had made were persisted over an uninstall. So I go into the registry and
manually remove the Software/Office (not sure that is correct but it is gone
now) registry tree. Next install is back to original settings. I also had
to use a tool that I found googling which MS provides called the Windows
Install Cleanup. Just seems like a house of cards. One thing goes wrong
create tool to fix that and when that creates a problem we create a tool
..... . I just cannot put into words the WOW experience on this PC.
