Office 2007 Small Business license

Can someone please advise me whether, under the MS license, I may install the
full suite (which I recently purchased at full price preinstalled on my work
HP laptop) on my new home desktop? I thought I read or believe I was told
somewhere that the license would allow installation on a single person's
desktop and laptop for use by that person alone, but I have been unable to
find a reference for this answer. Thanks very much!

A preinstalled (OEM) version of Office is generally licensed for
installation only on the computer that the software came with, and
cannot be installed on or transferred to any other computer. To see how
many computers your particular copy of Office is licensed for
installation on, read Section 2 "Installation and Use Rights" of your
Office 2007 Software License Terms, which you can access by starting
Word 2007 and clicking on Office Button | Word Options | Resources |
About | View the Microsoft Software License Terms.

Thanks for your response. Evidently I received from HP an "OEM" copy of
Office 2007 preinstalled on my laptop, although I paid the same price for it
as I would have paid for Office 2007 SB at retail at the time. Because of
this distinction (without a difference?), I may not install a 2nd copy of
the suite on my desktop for my own use, which means in my case that I will
have to pay an additional $270 if I want to use the same programs on my
desktop. Somehow, I do not see how this is fair or reasonable, but perhaps I
am missing something (please let me know). Thanks again for the reference.

Hi David,

In theory, OEM copies of Office move the front line of support from Microsoft to the PC supplier. Since the PC supplier would not
usually want to support a computer they may not have provided, and would like you to buy another PC from them later, the portability
and 2nd computer provisions aren't in the OEM licenses.

The pricing the PC suppliers charge are pretty much up to them for the copy. To check to see if you have an OEM copy in Word 2007
use
Alt, T, O, R then click on 'About' and see if the product ID includes "OEM" in it. Some PC suppliers sell both OEM and retail
editions, some sell only retail editions as they don't want the support task/costs.

For retail copies, Microsoft has a 45 day refund policy. For OEM copies, the contract would be between you and the PC supplier.
Some will make allowances or adjustments.

Hi David,

FWIW, for comparison, while you paid $270 for a single machine license, the MS suggested price for the two license retail edition
of
Microsoft Office 2007 Small Business Edition is $450.
The Amazon.com price is $400.
