office 95-XP

I bought a computer a few years back which came with
Office Professional 95. I recently bought Office XP
Standard Upgrade and tried to install it. A window came up
saying that there was no qualifying program installed to
upgrade. Presumably this can be done or has some unknown
statute of limitations passed by that a line was drawn
between Office 95 and 97 as to what is upgradable or not.

No, it means exactly what it says - you have an upgrade licence (a little
odd if it came with a system) and you have no qualifying product (which
would have been some even more antiquated version of Office or Works). I
think your only choice here is to purchase a newer version (Office 95 is
/not/ a qualifying product for either Office XP or Office 2003 - if you want
to use it as such, then you're going to have to track down a copy of 2000).
