Office 97 calendar problem

Need to restore calendar function in Outlook 97 (I'm on Windows98
second edition). I don't know what I've done but Outlook won't let me
start. It complains about an email problem. I never used Outlook for
email.

When I try to start Office I get a message that says "Unable to open
your default mail folders. Outlook could not start because a location
to send and receive mail could not be found. To add a location go to
Control Panel...."

If I proceed and say I'll work off line and click on the Calendar icon
it then says "Unable to display folder. The folder no longer exists".

I made an image of my system a month ago so I can restore whatever I
have to.

I would appreciate help to get my Outlook calendar working again.

TIA

Do you connect to Exchange Server for your mail? How do you "say I'll work
offline"?

I do not use Outlook for any mail. I just clicked on the button to move
on. I apparently removed my profile in error. Now I cannot establish
one. As Help In Outlook instructs I got to Control Panel Mail then
remove the profile. I then restart Outlook and it asks me to select
the information serivices I want. I select Internet Mail and then on
the next screen there is a button to "Setup Mail Account" I click on it
and it moves up and down but nothing happens.

COuld you please tell me what file(s) to restore? I have and image of
my system that I could use.

This is frustrateing I've unistalled and reinstalled Outlook and I
can't get past the setup accout thing now.

TIA

I would try using the Control Panel applet to create a new profile
containing only the Personal Folders service. You do not need to add any
mail accounts if you do not plan to use Outlook for mail.

If you later want to add an Internet mail account, then you should install
the latest service pack for Office 97, which includes the Internet Mail
Enhancement Patch.
