Office 97 CD Key

Hi, all. I've misplaced the jewel case for Office 97. I want to contact
Microsoft and get a new CD key. However, from their support site it doesn't
look like they still support Office 97.

Before paying $35 for to get a "we don't support that any longer" answer,
does anyone know if they will provide a new CD key for Office 97?

Is Office 97 still installed on your computer? if so get Belarc
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
and that will tell you your Key.

No, it's not installed on my PC. Had to reformat the hard drive. I have
Office XP upograde and the jewel case for it. Just need to find out if
Microsoft will provide a new CD key for Office 97 before I spend $35 just to
be told no.

If you just want to install the upgrade, all you will need to do is insert
the CD Rom for Office '97 when prompted to do so during the setup. You don't
need the key.

Office 97 is a qualifying product for Office XP upgrade. You do not need to
actually install Office 97 nor do you need the product key. Start the
installation of Office XP. When asked for a qualifying product, insert the
Office 97 CD in the drive and browse to it.

Yes




I didn't know that the "upgrade" was actually a full version of the
software.

An Office upgrade is the full version of Office. The difference is in the
installer requiring a qualifying product.

Did you read the rest of the post? If not, the answer is that it may not
need the product key. And to be honest - I think most people who post things
like this don't continue to read the newsgroup. They are pretty much
"one-hit wonders".
