Office 97 running really slowly on vista

Vic33

Hi. I've got a copy of my office 97 on two machines, one runs xp, the other
vista. Why is there such a long hang-time while running this on my vista
machine? This machine has bigger specs than my XP machine, so it should be
at least as fast? is there a bug-fix for this as it drives me crazy!

Hi Vic33,

MS doesn't guarantee Office 97 to run on Vista at all. There may be some conflict that's causing the poor performance.

Sorry, It's 2002 version. You think it's time for an upgrade perhaps! What
about 2002, any guarantees with this version?

No
2003 onwards is fully compatible (has been tested on Vista)

Hi Vic33,

Office 2000 onwards are supported, though Outlook 2000 & 2002 have some issues that can be worked around.

Please note that "Supported on Vista" != "Microsoft support" for
software past end of support. Only 2003 is still in Microsoft support
for the general user, as mainstream support for Office XP expired July
11, 2006.

Have you recently opened files from network drives that are currently not
available? That can cause long startup delays.

Try this:

Start PPT

Open then close ten PPT files from your local hard drive or from a network
drive that's still attached.

Quit PPT and restart it.

Better?
