Office Assistant in Office 2000/Publisher 2003

Help.
I am running Office 2000 Professional & installed
Publisher 2003. Each time I open an Office 2000
application AFTER Publisher, I get a message telling me to
repair the Office Assistant.
Is there anyway to fix this without purchasing Office 2003?

I did install the service patches, to no avail. I still
have the same problem.
Any other ideas?
