office attachments in emails

when ever i send email attchments of any microsoft office
software i am unable to open it once i have downloaded
it.i have checked my computer for viruses and nothing has
come up. and when i try to open the attachment i get this
messsage:
the document name or path is not valid. try these
suggestions
check file permission for the doc or drive
use file open dialog box

i have tried both of these and still dosnt work
when i email from another office with a different office
software i can open them on my computer fine?
any ideas anyone
