office hangs on close

[Office can't open certain things, hangs]

I got a sony vio s360-p laptop about 4 months ago. The trial version of
office ran out, so i uninstalled it and installed my student edition of 03
pro that i got from my bookstore. I also have it on my main computer and
have no problems. My problem is that now on my laptop when some things are
opening in office they hang up the program during the virus scan, so i have
to close the app. Also, sometimes it will open the files, but when i go to
close the program it hangs again. Once it hangs i have to manually turn off
the comp rather than going to shutdown. The windows error reporting says its
an apphang error. but if i go to send the error to microsoft nothing
happens...once again it hangs. any suggestions will be awesome

If you're using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the Office Plugin
that comes with it. See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820 "How to

i disabled it and its still doing it. The status bar shows that the program
is opening, but once it gets like 3/4 of the way it stops and then has to be
crt alt del. Sometimes i will also be working on a doc, then save it and
close it, but then when i go to close word powerpoint etc it will then hang
too.
