Office Printing Problem

B

I'm very perplexed....................

Have HP DJ610C printer installed. Printing test pages is not a problem and
indicates a functioning and communicating device.

I can print pages off the internet - I've just printed the general
discussion page for Office.

What I can't do is print from Office applications - OE, Notepad, Word,
Excel. When I say can't print, it sounds as though it's printing but NOTHING
appears on the paper. Internet and test page printing is OK.

I assumed that something was wrong with Office i.e. file corruption, so I
ran the Reoair functio. No Joy!?!. I then removed and re-installed Office.
No Joy !!!???!!! Can anyone tell me where I go from here ?????

Outlook Express and Notepad are NOT Office applications. If you
have Windows XP, then are you using the proper Windows XP printer
driver for your very old printer, or are you using the printer
driver that was originally supplied with the printer?

Garfield's right. It's time to get a new HP. I know - it's tough to get rid
of a work horse but sometimes they older models don't play well with XP.

Badly worded problem should have been Word, Excel as the Office products as
well as OE and notepad.....

Yes printer is old but does the job. Been to HP web site to download driver
but there is none for XP. Seems be part and parcel of OS. uninstalled and
re-installed as plug 'n play.

JoAnn,

I don't disagree. However not my printer or PC but a friends. Printer has
been working fine for god knows how long and now only "semi
"works.............. I'm sure they will buy a modern one as they are so cheap
i.e. cheaper to by new one as not much more expensive thean replacing
cartridges. Problem is I can't convince myself that the problem is with the
printer so wouldn't be able to convince them - it does print internet pages
as well as printing a test page with no problems; so buying a new one may
only "semi" work also.

In Word, do documents display correctly in File - Print Preview?

What happens if you lie to Windows XP and tell it that you're using a
similar model of printer? What I'm thinking is that there is a bug in that
driver, but one that wasn't detected because none of the beta testers were
using that printer. So, rather than telling XP they're using the 610C, lie
and say it's the 710C or one of the 810 series.

I've had some success in lying to XP when a printer driver appears to be
defective.

Herb,
Tks for response.............

Yes, displays correctly in print preview mode.

I'll try your tip. I think driver options other than 610C were for an HP
615 and 620. I'll try one of those and see if it works. I'll respond back
to let forum know if work or not. Would a repair of XP Home be another
option to try ???

If the driver is defective, then a repair would, at best, put back the same
defective driver. If the driver is damaged, however, and there is an
undamaged original driver, then repair would fix the problem.

A faster alternative to that, however, would be to remove and resinstall
just the printer driver. I'm assuming that XP Home, for the most part, isn't
behaving flakily.

A reason I suggested the 710 or 810 series drivers is that it's
possible/likely that the 615/620 were built from the same basic core as the
610 driver, and that any XP-specific bug in the driver possibly would be
present in those other drivers, as well. Still... anything's worth a shot,
since the current drivers don't seem to like Office.

Herb,

Tried only other OS driver options of 612 and 615 but to no avail. thought
about downloading a 700 or 800 series driver but decided to borrow a 940C
(USB) printer from another friend to try/test. This worked perfectly.
Suspect I could download a driver which would fool OS or probably re-install
OS to get 610 working again. However convinced users that it would be more
prudent to update the printer to a modern variety (printer, scanner, copier &
card reader) which would cost probably the same as a pair of BW/color
cartridges. Ordered and due for delivery within 24hrs. Cost was £79.99 inc
delivery.

Thanks for your help and feedback
