Office Pro 2003, Can't open programs

I just started having problems opening any of my office programs (excel,
word, outlook, etc). When I try to open, say word, I get a pop up that says
"prpearing installation" then "Installing components for Microsoft office
word." After it tries to load these components, I get an error saying my
"specified path is too long" then it gives the location of my office program.

After canceling these dialogue boxes, the last error I get is, "Microsoft
office word has not been instaled for the current usr. Please run set up to
install application."

I have XP pro and office pro 2003. Should I reinstall office pro with my
disk? I don't want to lose data. I'm a little confused on what they mean by
run set-up?

I'm also having problems trying to download updates from the web, I tried
all suggestions listed to no avail. Maybe this has something to do with it.
Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks. When I get to step #7 and try to "open the following folder"
c:\documents and settings\all users\apllication data\microsoft\office\data\
I get an error message saying that "this location is unavailable. It could
be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure the
disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the internet or your
network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information
may have been moved to a different location."

I made sure I'm on the internet, and even did a search looking for
\office\data and received the exact same message. When they say disk is
properly inserted, does that mean I need to insert my installation disk?

Thanks again for the help.

Garfield and Odie,

Also, that isn't the error message I get, but I think you are on the right
page. When I try to open up an office program like word, it tries to install
components, then gives me an error "1320. The specified path is too long:
C:\documents and settings\all users\applications data\microsoft\office" It
also has trouble with this path???

Could be a permissions issue. Are you logged on as Administrator when
you do this?
