after i installed the trial version it did not work properly. when i tried to
package powerpoint presentation to cd i got message saying i needed to insert
re-writable cd
i did several times. no luck.
now i can't get system restore to work, i have restore points but it just
won't go back to any of them. tried safe mode and command prompt. tried when
office was uninstalled, no luck. anyone any ideas apart from going back to
factory settings.

Rather than trying to package directly to the CD, instead choose Copy to
Folder when you do the File/Package for CD. Then use your CD burning
software or Windows XP's CD burning capability to burn the *contents* of the
folder to the CD.

IIRC, PPT has problems with CD-RW in the Package for CD process. I think
that using a CD-R will probably work better.

Regardless, I still recommend using the Copy to Folder option and then
burning the files to CD in a separate step. It just seems to me to be more
reliable in general.
