Office problem

I bought this computer from a reputable repair/resale shop. It had Office
2000 already installed. however, when i try to use programs, it says
"Application needs to be installed to run. Please run Setup from the
location where you originally installed the program." What does that mean
and am I out of luck here?

It probably means that Office 2000 was installed under one Windows user
login, and you're signed in under a different Windows user login.

It was probably running from a file server before. If this place was
reputable, you should have the media and be able to reinstall...
