Office Professional vs Office Basic

Is there a difference in Excel (Professional) and Excel (Basic edition)?

Reason I ask is that Quickbooks told that we need to upgrade our Excel Basis
to Excel Professional in order for it to work with one of their financial
statement add-ons.

No it is the Office suite that is designated as Basic or Professional,
the applications are the sam.
