Office Shortcut Bar

Gerald

I recently bought a new computer (Dell 8400) and transferred only the data
from the old one. I loaded my Professional Office 2002 into my new machine.
However the vertical office shortcut bar facility is no longer an item in
Microsoft Office Tools. I miss the vertical shortcut bar, especially when i
am in IE working the internet. Does anyone know if it is available any more?
I assume that i must have had it from a previous office version. I can't
find it as an item at the Microsoft support site. Sure would like to get my
vertical toolbar back. Thanks.

Have you tried starting the shortcut bar from Start | All Programs |
Microsoft Office Tools | Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar? If the shortcut
bar is not a choice in this menu, then you can add the feature to your
installation by inserting the CD and clicking on Start | Control Panel |
Add/Remove Programs | Microsoft Office XP | Change | Add/Remove
Features. You'll find Office Shortcut Bar in the "Office Tools" category.

Trust me - you don't need it. You have the Quick Launch bar in Windows,
which is far better - I think you'll grow to prefer it. I don't know anyone
who doesn't.

You must not get out much. Many, many posters have lamented the loss of the OSB
in this forum since "The Great and Powerful Gates" decided we didn't want it.

Actually, I do get out a lot, and have trained a lot of recalcitrant,
change-averse users, and I have yet to hear any lamenting & wailing to
heaven, see any rending of garments, tearing out of hair. It's just a
shortcut bar, not a cure for polio. :)

Although I don't see the problem, either...Beth's article (listed in
my other) DOES get about 6,000 hits a week. That pretty much shows
that there IS a significant amount of people lamenting over it. (And
within their many Thanks emails we get, they verify that there was
also wailing and much tear of hair.<g>)

Bottom line is, those who want it that badly, will find a way to get it or a
substitute, of which there are many that work as good as or better. But it
is not coming back due to compatibility issues and others.
