Office Update

On my PC (Dell Dimension 4000 Pentium III etc) I have MS Office 2000 Professional installed . I have tried to update Office with SR2 but ended up in a dead end. It seems the update process cannot finish its job without finding a certain file and asks me to insert a disk I cannot find. Since I retired and moved I can not find my original Office Pro installation disks!

This incomplete process is a nuisance because whenever I start Office/Word a series of warnings show up and a request to insert that missing disk.

My question: Is there an inexpensive way to terminate effectively the installation process and revert to my originally installed SR1 without that disk? I hate to buy another Office product. I know I had registered this product with MS and the product ID key is readily available in the 'about ..' window.
Does anybody have a suggestion how to overcome this annoying interference?

The file SP2 is looking for is likely the office.msi file (installation file)
on the original disk.

Assuming you bought the computer from Dell originally look on the case and
find the service tag and express service code. On Dimension models it is
usually located on the upper left corner near the front. Call Dell support
(1-800-624-9896) and follow the prompts to speak to an adviser.

Explain the situation to them and there is a reasonable possibility they
might get you another office disk. If you are in warranty there might not be
a fee but if you are out of warranty there will likely be a small fee to
cover their expense of sending one to you but it will still be a far cry less
than buying a new copy of office.

Dell is usually pretty awsome when it comes to customer satisfaction so they
usually seem eager to help. I hope this helps, take care and God Bless.
