Office XP Activation

Question:

Does anyone know if it is possible to "deactivate" Office XP, uninstall it
from one computer, and then install it and activate it on another computer?

Detail:

In 2001, I bought a notebook computer from Dell that had Office XP Small
Business Edition installed. Along with the computer, I received what appear
to be full installation disks for Office XP in a separate cardboard sleeve
with a product key printed on the back. Office was already installed, but
not activated, so I had to activate it the first time I used it.

I recently bought a new Sony notebook to replace the Dell, and I would like
to uninstall Office from the Dell and install it on the Sony. Does anyone
know of the procedure to "deactivate" Office before I uninstall it from the
Dell and then install it on the Sony?

I've read on the Microsoft site that home users are allowed 2 installations
of Office XP, but I've also read that this is not permitted for Original
Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) versions of Office. I'm confused because I
can't tell if the version of Office that I have is considered OEM, or if
it's even a relevant factor.

Thanks in advance.

Mr T

To determine if you have OEM media just check the front
of the actual disk, if it has wording along the lines
of "For distribution with a new pc only" then it is
definately OEM software and under the End User License
Agreement (EULA)that you would have agreed to when you
first installed the software you can only use that
software on the computer on which it was purchased. If
you have a full retail version of Office Xp then you can
take advantage of the 'secondary rights' clause in the
EULA and install a copy of Office Xp on both a Desktop
and a Laptop. To do this you need to be the owner of
both devices. You cannot install the software on 2
Laptops or 2 Desktops.

Hope this claifies your issue
