No, Office XP is the last version of Office. Office Basic is the new
version (2003) sold only by OEMs.

After furious head scratching, TiffanyHoltz asked:

| I am confused, is Office XP and Office Basic 2003 the same program??

No, they're not the same. Office 2003 is the current version of Office.
Basic is one of several Office 2003 "editions" (combinations of programs);
see http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/howtobuy/compare.mspx for a list
of all the various editions. Office XP (which some people refer to as Office
2002, although that isn't technically correct) is the previous version of
Office. Office XP was also available in several editions.

Office XP (which some people refer to as Office 2002, although that isn't
technically correct)...

gee, I go to Help>About in Excel XP and Access XP and Microsoft tells me I'm
running Excel 2002 and Access 2002 (SP3)

So, Microsoft is technically incorrect? (or a maybe just a little schzoid)

:)

The Office XP suite includes individual applications Word 2002, Excel
2002, Powerpoint 2002, etc. But the suite of applications is called
Office XP, not Office 2002.

You can't be going to Help/About in Excel XP or Access XP because
there is no such version. You are going to Help/About in Excel 2002
and Access 2002 which are part of the Office XP suite. (Which btw,
are internally known as Excel 10.0 and Access 10.0. How's that for
even more confusion? <grin>)

I totally agree, it's confusing - MS messed up on this one, although I
suspect it was really due to marketing, but Office 2003 and the
applications are all named the same so hopefully they won't do this
again...
