Office XP and Trail version of Office 2003

Johanna

I recently purchased a laptop with the trial version of Office 2003. I never
activated this program nor did I remove it. I did install Office XP,
problem: I am traveling and my original programs are at home 3,000 miles
away. When I try to export or import files to an Office Program, ie Word or
Excel they want to go into the 2003 program (initiating the installation
program) which I don't want to do. My questions is: can I uninstall the
Office 2003 without affecting the XP version? Since I don't have the
original disks to reinstall I can't risk ruining the XP version. Does anyone
have any answers or suggestions?

Since you should have uninstaled 2003 prior to installing the earlier
version office I would imagine uninstalling 2003 now would probably require
a detect/repair using your xp cd.
Try this;
In IE Tools/Folder Options / File Types
scroll down to Doc - should say MS Word Doc
Change / Other, in the resulting window search for winword.exe
The Officexp default install is /Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office10
(2003 is Office11)
Select winword.exe, in the Office10 folder, and allways use.

If that cures the word problem, repeat for xls file types, searching for
excel.exe in the office10 folder
