Office XP Pro Upgrade Installation Failure. What to do?

M

Marj

I'm running Windows XP Professional and also have Office XP Professional. Microsoft said to check for upgrades. Did so and downloaded the upgrades. Had my Office XP Professional CD in hand. Installation failed twice

First time, the computer said it needed the file "proret.mis." Couldn't find it on the CD or my hard drive

Dell advised uninstall and reinstall Office? This makes missing files suddenly appear? Maybe..

Second time, the computer asked for the CD. Put the CD in; file not found (name of missing file not given this time).

Any ideas on how to either get the missing file or get a successful installation of the upgrades

Thanks!

Hi, Marj,

No, that wouldn't make missing files suddenly appear, but it might unconfuse
the Windows Installer which doesn't see the file that it's looking for.

Did Dell pre-install this? If so, they need to help you get the update
worked out.

In the mean time, this article may help you:
