I got a 10-user version of Office XP that, ironically, has been
installed 10 times.
We just bought 5 new Dell computers to replace our oldest computers.
The old computers are being formatted to erase everything.
It's been at least 4 months since we did the last install. Is it gonna
make me call in to tech support when I install it on the new computers?
Can I back up a registry key or something to the new computers?
If I have to call Microsoft, do I have to call 5 times or can they give
me codes for all 5 computers at once?
As a programmer myself, I understand the piracy problem, but this whole
thing is a MAJOR pain the butt. We're opening a new office in 6 months
and I'm seriously considering switching the whole company over to Open
Office since it's recieved such a good review in PC Magazine.
What Microsoft needs to do is this... If I attempt electronic
registration with a product that's been previously registered, let me
answer questions electronically. Let me create an account or something
and "log in" to the account to manage my licenses to make moving
computers around much easier.
My biggest problem is with Laptops. We install Office XP on our
employees laptops and when they leave the company, we remove the
software from their laptop. Then we gotta jump through hoops to install
it on a new computer the next time.
Unfortunately, I have a small business and the cost for "corporate"
versions of the software is just too high.
Come on Microsoft, you gotta make this easier for those of us who are
honest.
