OL2k3 and Exchange: messaging interface has returned unknown error

Wes

This user's laptop (XP Pro and Office 2003 with all SPs and Updates applied)
is popping up this useless message every time he tries to create a new or
forward an existing e-mail: "The Messaging Interface has returned an unknown
error..." He's receiving new e-mail just fine BTW.

We've tried running both on-line and off-line and restarted OL and the
system several times. Initially, OL2k3 was installed as part of the domain
join. Then Office 2k3 was installed.

Could the OST file be the possible culprit? Is there any way to get more
details on the error? Or am I doomed to start with running the OST repair
tool and following up doing a repair install of OL and praying?

Thanks for the info, Diane. I could not locate any .srs file on his system.
I ended up just blowing away his profile and recreating it and that solved
the problem.

Once I actually got my hands on the system, I found that there were several
things not working correctly besides not being able to create a new e-mail
(including forward and reply). Not sure what corrupted things, but he had
several other Outlook interfaces installed that I was unaware of - for
example, IPod, AIM.

I would like to know why I couldn't find the .srs file. I had all the usual
views turned on (hidden files, etc).

It's in the hidden folder %AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook.
