OLAP updation problem

N

Nitesh Mathur

Hi I’m using PWA & Project Prof 2003 and facing problem while updating OLAP
cube.

In Admin --> manage enterprise feature; we already scheduled to update OLAP
cube at 1:30 AM daily. This is a time when no user connected with Server and
its works fine for 10 – 15 days then its failed to build OLAP cube or hang on
with following message
“ the cube is being build†or
“The cube scheduled to be built on 7/22/2008 at 3:33 PM
failed.(-2147221411)†or
“The cube process has been initiated [date, time]â€

Generally we reset the password in PCComplus.exe and restart View
Notification Services and its become successful, but some times this exercise
not works and we have to restart our Production & data base server. But
generally we do this exercise in every 10 to 15 days.

Is there any permanent solution as I was tried many solutions which are
available on forums but those are not permanent solution ; its my opinion.

Point to note : We have two server : one is Production server & second is
database server.

Any suggestion please.

Nitesh,

Have you checked the view drop folder? Generally this folder is
located on your project server machine. The path is \Program Files
\Microsoft Office Project Server 2003\BIN\VIEWDROP

See, is there any XML files queued up? In general, when you publish ms
project plan, XML file will be generated for that particular project
and will be processed here to push the information to Project Web
Access.

If processing of these files struck, there are possibilities of
failing the cube build process.

If you see the files, you have to clear up these files. Also check
Error event log to find out which XML file is causing the blockage.

Thanks
Chak

Nitesh,

It seems to be error was originated on Resource Availability cube
build process. It also indicates that your project plans are not
causing any errors.

I guess, wide resource availability range is making impact on cube
build process. Currently your OLAP resource availability cube
considering the data from 1984 to 2014

Question for you, what are the settings under "Date range for resource
availability"? (Please look under PWA -> Admin -> Manage Enterpriese
Features -> Update resource tables and OLAP cube)

Please use the following date range for retrieving resource
availability information
The next X weeks/months
The past X weeks/months

Ideally recommended settings are next 18 months ; past 0 weeks/months

I hope this resolves your error.

Thanks

Nitesh,

It sounds like your OLAP settings are okay.
FYI: Always best practice to show the future availability for 12 to 18
months. I prefer to have the setting as "The next 12 months"

Start looking the enterprise resource availability information in
enterprise resource pool. I guess, here you may be find the resource
availability distributed between 1984 to 2014.

What's the situation now? Are you able to build the cube?

Thanks

Nitesh,
Have you checked the view drop folder? Generally this folder is
located on your project server machine. The path is \Program Files
\Microsoft Office Project Server 2003\BIN\VIEWDROP
See, is there any XML files queued up? In general, when you publishms
project plan, XML file will be generated for that particular project
and will be processed here to push the information to Project Web
Access.
If processing of these files struck, there are possibilities of
failing the cube build process.
If you see the files, you have to clear up these files. Also check
Error event log to find out which XML file is causing the blockage.
Thanks
Chak

Hi I’m using PWA & Project Prof 2003 and facing problem while updating OLAP
cube.
In Admin --> manage enterprise feature; we already scheduled to update OLAP
cube at 1:30 AM daily. This is a time when no user connected withServer and
its works fine for 10 – 15 days then its failed to build OLAP cube or hang on
with following message
“ the cube is being build” or
“The cube scheduled to be built on 7/22/2008 at 3:33 PM
failed.(-2147221411)” or
“The cube process has been initiated [date, time]”
Generally we reset the password in PCComplus.exe and restart View
Notification Services and its become successful, but some times this exercise
not works and we have to restart our Production & data base server. But
generally we do this exercise in every 10 to 15 days.
Is there any permanent solution as I was tried many solutions which are
available on forums but those are not permanent solution ; its myopinion..
Point to note : We have two server : one is Production server & second is
database server.
Any suggestion please.

Thanks
Chak

Hi Chak
How r u.

When I have seen in manage enterprise features its shows as following :

The past 3 months

now I change the settings as next 2 months ; past 2 weeks.
Is it ok or I want to change as per mention by you?

It seems to be error was originated on Resource Availability cube
build process. It also indicates that your project plans are not
causing any errors.
I guess, wide resource availability range is making impact on cube
build process. Currently your OLAP resource availability cube
considering the data from 1984 to 2014
Question for you, what are the settings under "Date range for resource
availability"? (Please look under PWA -> Admin -> Manage Enterpriese
Features -> Update resource tables and OLAP cube)
Please use the following date range for retrieving resource
availability information
The next X weeks/months
The past X weeks/months
Ideally recommended settings are next 18 months ; past 0 weeks/months
I hope this resolves your error.
