OLK 19?

How can I access files located in OLK 19? This is usually under the c: drive
under users/local settings/temporary internet files. This is a system
generated backup, or save location.

The best idea is to not save them there in the first place. Navigate
there after you set Folder View to show Hidden and System folders.

Thank you. Is there a way by which I can have an automatic save area, for
all types of files? I would rather not have to find them in OLK19 but there
are times my son just "saves" his documents. Then, it is up to me to find
them ! I did find a file called "my recent documents". It seems to have
everything in there but, as you said, better not to have them there in the
first place. Any suggestion as to where I could plug in a general "save"
location for all files?

That is the secure temp folder used by Outlook to save attachments. It is created by Windows/Office and cannot be changed. However, you can change where you save the attachments when you choose Save As, but not Save.

Simplest is to not open immediately, but just r-click on the attachment,
and pick Save As. Default is My Documents. Then you are good to go.

I have found 2 ways, depending on how the system is set up (we run into this
where I work). (I know the folder is there, but I can't access it the normal
way, even after allowing system and hidden files on the control panel/folder
options)

1. open a different attachment and save it (making sure it goes to the olk
file)
then, from the start button, check to see if it shows on the recent
document list. if it does, open it. you can then go up to file, open and it
will default to the current (ie temporary) file.
if that doesn't work:
2. open a search. type in the olk folder name. be sure to select show
system files, hidden files, and subfolders. do the search. when I did it,
it opened a "link" to the folder. Click on that and you will have the folder.

Thanks SO much MaryQ. Your steps were MOST helpful.

I KNEW where my files had gone but as you mentioned I couldn't access them.
This has caused me great confusion recently while working with different
versions of the same file to retain backups.

With every new version of Office I find some of the simplest tasks become
more and more obscure!!! SOO frustrating. Your tips as well as "Bob's in
this discussion will save me from much confusion and wasted time in future!

Many thanks for your input.
