Omit header and footer on some pages

I want the contents of the header and footer to appear only on some pages of
the publication.

However, when I create a new Master Page and delete the header and footer
from that master, it is also deleted from the other master.

Is it possible to achieve this and if so, how?

I am using 2003

You can have as many different master pages as you have publication pages.
