Recently (Aug 22) a newer version of Windows Desktop Search 3.0 - Beta 2 -
has become available online. We have heard of issues reported, so I wanted to
suggest recovery steps.
OneNote 2007 Beta 2 build is not compatible with Windows Desktop Search 3.0
Beta 2. If you have OneNote 2007 Beta 2 and already installed WDS 3.0 Beta 2,
you have three options:
- You can wait for OneNote 2007 Beta 2 Technical refresh (coming very soon)
which will work with the newer WDS.
- You can uninstall WDS and move back to WDS Beta Preview build
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...53-6e20-4cf7-8bfc-1cac7f35da49&DisplayLang=en)
- Or you can uninstall WDS altogether, which means slower search. To disable
the OneNote prompt to download WDS, set these registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\OneNote\Options\Other\EnableWDSIndexing
= 0
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\OneNote\Options\Other\ShowWDSUpdateWarning = 0

Hope this helps,
Olya (OneNote team)

Thanks for the confirmation Olya, I just discovered the incompatibility this
morning. Are you saying I can remove WDS 3.0 beta 2, disable the OneNote WDS
prompt, and then search will work in OneNote 2007 beta as it did in OneNote
2003? I'm lost without search in OneNote.

I guess my decision will be based on what "coming soon" means (for the
Technical Refresh) ;)

Is there an ETA for it?

Thanks!

Yes, that is correct. If you uninstall WDS, OneNote Beta 2 will fall back to
slower brute force search, but you will still be able to find your data.
When OneNote B2TR will come out, you can install newer WDS.

I uninstalled WDS Beta 2 and reinstalled Beta 1 / Preview. It still
only displays items from the current page (this is both search and
flags). I know everything was working fine before I installed Beta 2.
Am I missing something?

Thanks for your help.
