As this touches upon problems we've recently encountered:
Don't publish the Project98 file to ProjectServer without dumping it to -
say, XML - in between, or you'll be seeing an even slower and slower
database server eventually.
I can't excactly explain why pushing Pj98 data into PS2002 does what it
does - but "XML-purging" the file apparently helps.
An idea of mine is that as the Pj98 version used a different method of
storing timephased data than the one used in later versions, this data
remains un-touched in binary compiled Pj98 form somewhere within the file
(even when opened up) and this Pj98 compiled data is then added to PS when
publishing the file. Opening files from a "Pj98-tainted" database can lead
to extremely slow opening of files - up to over a minute in certain cases
we've seen - and that was NOT a large file.
When temporary storing the data in XML format - search for and remove a
Calendar called "Used for Project 98 Baseline Calendar" or something similar
(I can't remember the exact wording) just to clean things up
