Opening a e-mailed form

Bob B

I get this error when I try to open a form filled out on my PC to my self:
Info Path cannot open "myfile.xml". The form or its assocated template are
from a restricted security zone. The folder the form resides in is marked as
shared folder.

Hi,

What is the security level of your form?
I think your farm has the restricted security , you need to give the full
trust to your form.

Hello

Check the Check Box Automatically determine Security Level in the Form
Options-> Security Settings.
Also do you have any data connections to the form?

B

Bob B

Can you be more specific. On the .xml form I have gone to: Tools\Options\
The box at the bottom of the page under security options 'allow full trusted
forms..." is checked. Is this box your referring too?

Hello

You have to open the .xsn in design mode and then go to Tools-> Form
Options-> Security and Trust

Using info 2003. I changed the security and trust and now I can't even open
form or ever create a new input form, as the form is fully trusted. This
applies to the backup form on a external flash drive as well. How can I get
changed this back as I cannot even open the form to make the change.

B

Bob B

I made the change and now I can't even open the form or create a new form.
The message is because the form template is not fully trusted. How can I
change this authority back as I can't even opem the .xml file or the .xsn
file. This applies to a off line backup also. There is some system parameter
in control.

I solved the problem by copying the form from another PC. This reset the flag
you told me to change. I'm still not able to open e-mailed form, even it
is sent to myself.

I think you are confusing two things with each other: The form (=XML) and the
form template (XSN). If you are unable to open any of them in InfoPath, do
the following:

You can open a .xml file, which is a filled-out InfoPath form in Notepad
without needing InfoPath. If you cannot open this file, you do not have read
permissions to the file itself.

You can open a .xsn, which is the InfoPath form template, by renaming the
..xsn to .cab. Double-click on the .cab and extract the files it contains to a
location. Open the manifest.xsf file in Notepad, search for the publishUrl
and replace the path for it with an empty string.

publishUrl=""

If the tustLevel is "restricted", you can make it "domain" by removing the
following two attributes from the manifest.xsf

trustLevel="restricted" trustSetting="automatic"

Save and close the manifest.xsf. Then right-click the manifest.xsf and
choose Design. The form template should open in InfoPath and you should be
able to make changes to it and republish it.

Regarding not being able to open the e-mailed form: Do you have the required
permissions to the location where the form template was published? In your
initial post you said it was a shared folder. After a folder is shared, you
also have to set the security permissions on it, before people can access the
files it contains. Double-check the security permissions on the shared folder.

When I opem my .xml file in Note Pad I get garbage.

Let me restate my problem. I e-mailed a .xml file I created on my computer
to my self as a test. I was not able to open in info path. The error was
Template or form is from a restriced site. The folder it came from is shared
and the box share on the network is checked.

I've read about your problem and also the suggestions that others have been
giving you in previous posts. Did you try any of those suggestions?

In your previous posts you were having difficulty opening both the XML and
the XSN files. The instructions I gave you were to be able to correct these
files without using InfoPath. Did you try what I suggested? Are you able to
open the XSN now?

The file share that you created and published the form template (XSN) to is
being recognized by IE as a restricted site. Try registering this location in
either the Local Intranet or Trusted Sites in IE. You can do this in Internet
Explorer via Tools > Internet options > Security tab.

These posts might give you some background information on security in
InfoPath:

I can open the .xsn and the associated .xml file on my PC and other PC's I
copy it too. When I e-mail the xml file to my self I cannot open it. The
message is file or associated template is from a restricted site. If I email
the assoaciated .xsn file to my self I can open it.

So now you can open both the XSN and XML files? Great!

Now on to the emailed XML file: Did you try the suggestion I made about
configuring Internet Explorer and putting the location of the share in the
trusted sites group? If you haven't, please try that?

I am using Outlook Express to send e-mail. Why would I have to change
anything in IE? Why can I open the e-maile xsn file and not the associated
xml form?

S

S.Y.M. Wong-A-Ton

Because InfoPath uses the security model of IE. If IE says that InfoPath may
not do something, InfoPath won't be able to do it. Did you read the links I
provided last time? They talk a bit about this.

B

Bob B

Yes I did read the links you sent which doesn't help much. The security tab
in IE refers to web sites. My home page is listed under trusted sites. Why
can I open e-mail maile to my self of the xsn form but not the associated
xml created by it?

Please refer to my previous post. Unfortunately, we have wound up in a loop.
The only thing I can recommend is for you to visit the Microsoft Support site
(http://support.microsoft.com/), click on the Contact Microsoft link, and
phone Microsoft to get assistance. Sorry we could not be of more help to you
and thank you for posting your question.
