Opening a Word Document

S

Star

Hello to Group,
When I open a folder of Word.doc's, and click to open them up... the Word
document opens, but I receive a dialog box after the Word doc opens saying,
"path\doc name is being used by Star. Do you want to make a copy"?

I click cancel and everything seems fine, but this is annoying and I would
like to be rid of this dialog box, thank you very much!!

Note, if I open Microsoft Word first and then browse for a Word.doc that I
want to open, I do not get the dialog box, how can I fix this nuisance ??

Regards, and thanks for help.

Oh, What does VBA on this group name mean, curious ?? I was looking for
Word, General via OE and this is the group I subscribed to ??

Star,

Try recreating the file associations. Go to Start/Run and type:

winword /r

in the open field and click OK

VBA is the acronym for Visual Basic for Applications. The group is mainly
for people looking for help developing macros. As you can see, someone is
usually willing to help even if you post to the wrong group. Your problem
is more appropriate for the Applications Errors group or even New Users
group.

Greg,
That little fix you posted worked beautifully. I know Winword is Word. I
even turned on show extensions and I could see all the Word files had .doc
for extension and the icons were all correct. After so long, I was about
ready to reinstall Office or run repair or ask that the last installation be
re-installed, I believe there's a choice to run the last installation.

I don't have the association problem w/PowerPoint but I have the same
problem w/Excel.

I typed excel /r but that didn't work. It ran Excel, Excel opened.

I'm sure you know what I should type to fix Excel, share w/me.

Thank you kindly,

Star

Thank you so much for your *fixes*!! The Excel fix was a *charm* just like
the Winword fix.

I'm up at the Microsoft website... looking for *ng's* to subscribe to. I
download all the ng's but it's difficult to get the one you need sometimes...
that's how I ended up in this programming group!!

Sorry that my reply is belated, hope you see this!!

I'm posting from the Community online site, this is not easy to use, however
I did a search and was able to find these older posts.

Yep, I see them and as always it is a pleasure to help and nice to get
feedback too.
