Opening and reading MIME Format messages in Outlook 2002

I have a friend who sends me messages from an Excite.com email account. Some of the emails which she sends to me are in MIME format. For some reason Outlook has a problem reading these messages. Is there a way to configure Outlook 2002 so that it can read these messages in MIME format?

Define "problem." Any error messages? What happens when you recieve them?
Does it always happen with messages from excite.com?

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.
