Opening Files...

Hi,

I'm getting the "Publisher cannot open file from a different version"
message when using Publisher 2000.

I thought all the files were originally created in Pub 2000 but I guess I
was wrong. I've tried installing a copy of Publisher 97 but the same
message appears. Is there anyway I can tell from the .pub file what version
it was created in??

I also seen this problem reported with Norton Anti Virus, though I have
Norton Anti Virus Corporate edition 7.6, which doesn't seem to be affected
with this issue.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Rick

Your virus program will not be affected but Publisher will. Disable "script blocking"
and try opening the file again. There is a chance the Publisher files were created in
Publisher 2002 or 2003, those will not open in Publisher 2000. Have your
correspondent convert the file to 2000 and re-send.

Hi Rick,

I'm having the same problem. I opened the files in
question using SlickEdit and found that they were created
with Microsoft Publisher 3.0. I thought Microsoft 2000
would open files of an earlier version.

Just because slickedit says it's 3.0 doesn't mean it is. And unlikely,
it's not. It is probably a 2002/2003 Publisher file. Publisher 2002/2003
also show the version as 3.0.

That's a "red herring". My Publisher 2003 files have Microsoft Publisher 3.0
embedded in the header, too. I suspect your file is from verison 2002 or 2003.
If you want to email me the file, I can save in Publisher 2000 format and send
it back.
