Opening Outlook

Can anyone help me? For some reason, I can no longer open
Outlook. The other members of my family (under different
profiles on the same computer) have no problem. The
Outlook box comes up when I try to open it, but it then
just sits on my screen and the application does not open.
I get no error message. I have tried re-installing Office
and have also tried the 'repair' option on the Office
setup disk.

Can anyone please suggest something I can do. I have no
problems with any other Office applications.

Many thanks.

Locate outcmd.dat and rename it to outcmd.old. This will reset your Toolbar.
If it got damaged Outlook can't build the Tool Bar and will hang.

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be corruption in the message
storage file.
To fix it, I had to rename the message file, start up Outlook in a "safe"
mode, the import the renamed file into a new message file.

This cleared my problem.

The Microsoft web support page covers this procedure.

Besides the aforementioned possibilities, the problem could also be a
corrupted mail profile. Create a new one (Mail applet in Control Panel) to
see if the problem goes away.
