Opening XML - saving as Excel

Can someone please tell me why, if I open an XML file in Excel 2007 and
then try to save it as an Excel file, without doing anything else,
rather than using the first part of the XML filename & changing the
extension, Excel insists on trying to save it as Book2.xls?

Is there a way to stop this and make it do the sensible thing?
