Org Chart- Connector Lines don't touch boxes

K

KristenGould

In my organizational chart in PPT XP, the connector lines don't touch the
boxes they are connecting. They have red dots at the end, so I know they are
locked, but they don't actually touch the boxes... They have worked fine in
the past...

I would check to make sure that the OrgChart shapes do not have a white (or
background like) colored border applied. This would make them still be
working correctly, but appear not to touch the colored part of the box.

I've tried your suggestion, but it still doesn't work. In a presentation of
23 charts, here are about 6 of them where the connectors don't "connect". I
used the org chart wizard to creat all of them, and I wondering why this
problem isn't occuring with all the charts.

Could you email me 2 slides from your presentation? I would like to see
them so I can help figure out what is going on. I understand if the data is
confidential and this is not a possibility.

First, create a copy of your presentation, then delete all the slides except
1 where the connectors connect and another where they don't. Save the file
as something new and send it to VestProg2 [the at sign] yahoo [dot] com.

I "fixed" it... I selected all the boxes in my chart and nudged them over by
hiting the right arrow key and back again... now they're all connected. But
if this ever happens again (and with my luck, I'm sure it will), I'll e-mail
you the slides. It was the strangest thing, the line stopped just a hair
short of the box...? Oh, well, thanks for your help...

Excellent example of auto-layout sometimes not really helping.

What I believe happened is this...
1) With auto-layout turned on, the borders were set to 4.5 point Thin-Thick
format.
2) Auto-layout was turned off
3) Borders were changed from 4.5 point to 2 point for the sake of
appearances

This left the connectors not quite connecting to the shapes in the OrgChart.
The correction is to do any of the following:
1) Turn auto-layout back on
2) Resize the borders back to 4.5 point
3) Move any of the shapes (forcing a reconnection routine to run)

Thank you, Kristen, for the excellent example,

Not sure what could have happened. Maybe the Org chart was
Ungrouped?
You may find Glen's tutorial on connectors helpful:
