Org charts - geneology

My father created about 30 geneology charts on MAC and we cannot open or use.
So I am trying to recreate these using a program that will still be around in
10 years or so...which means I do not want a program like easy draw - which
has strange extensions. So I looked in Excel...they do have org charts that
can be used or made into geneology charts - (this is more than just adding
names - it's adding birth, death, marriage dates, 2nd marriages etc..)
Ok - here is my problem...I cannot seem to change the size of the individual
labels - some I need larger...there is not enough handles to easily add
additional labels and place them where I want. Instead of just 1 head for
the organizational chart - I want 2 boxes or 2 heads.
Is there a better updated version for this function that allows more handles
or wiggle room - if you really want to play....

Finally I would like to change the labels - so that all males are rectangles
and all females are ovals

I have looked at other downloadable templates but when I went to download it
was taking over 4 minutes - so I figure it was not working..
Do these downloadable templates take that long to download and where should
I store them...temp file....I know I cannot add to the excel file - which is
where I would love them to live....

(Ideally you should be using Visio for org charts however I'd be willing to
be that you do not have Visio. )

Which version of Excel are you working with?

So, you're going to re-enter all of this data by hand? Is there a reason you
don't want to use a geneology program that is designed for this purpose?

Better watch out - you're starting to sound like me suggesting people use
Publisher for newsletters, etc. ;-)

I would recommend a genealogy program. I use an older version of Family Tree maker. It creates the genealogy charts
automatically, using whatever labels, data, colors, etc I want. They output to PDF.

I just saw a family tree program at Target for $20.

I wasn't sure if we could name products on the forum, but my wife uses the
program that Lady Dungeness has. It's quite good and powerful.

Happy geneology!
