Is there a way to select a column in an excel document and have it automatically organized by date?

Sure, just sort it on that column.

In 2008 you can sort on as many as 3 levels (columns) at a time without
going to any "extra" effort :)

To sort by any one column click in that column [don't select the entire
column] then use the A-Z/Z-A buttons to sort the list.

To sort by 2 or 3 columns select any cell in the data range & go to Data>
Sort. Select the fields to sort by as well as ascending/decending order for
each.

Alternatively, you can apply the List Manager or AutoFilter to the list &
use their respective Sort features.

Hi,

If you use the quick sort method of selecting in a column you want to sort
on keep these in mind:

1. Only select a single cell within the data, in the column
2. There should be at most one row of titles, and it is a good idea to
format the title differently from the data below them (bold, for example)
3. There should be no data touching the data to be sorted that you don't
want sorted, in other words there should be a "mote" around the data.

You can sort as many levels deep as you want with the above technique. Just
sort the least important column first and then repeat the process on the next
least important column working your way from least to most important.

This is not true in any version of Excel.

When you sort on a single column the records are sorted based on that column
only without regard for previous single column sorts. In order to do a
multi-level sort you must use the Data> Sort command or one of several more
advanced operations.
