organizing gantt chart and network diagram so it's easily managed

Is there a way to automatically arrange tasks so that the gantt chart isn't
so chaotic? Like arranging the tasks such that it looks more like stairs,
stepping from the first task to the very last task. Similar question for the
netwrok diagram. Overlapping lines make the diagram very confusing. Is it
possible to force overlaping lines to bend or something else that helps
distinguish the lines?
