Does that mean that if I were to purchase a copy of Publisher 2003, it would not run on my W98SE -
powered computer?

Thanks for your answers, folks!

Since I like my rock-solid W98SE (this statement is not meant to start a discussion on the merits of
W98SE vs. others) I guess I won;t get Publisher 2003.

Thanks agin!

Nothing wrong with liking Win 98. Every OS has its benefits. You could try
to find a copy of Pub 2002 - that will still run on 98.

Although using Windows 98 online is not a terribly secure move to make.
Windows 2000, XP and 2003 are the only operating systems supported by
security updates to avoid being infected by spyware.

Would it be able to read files created with Pub 2003?

Mine does. I can't promise it will open all of them but I can't promise that
the sun will rise tomorrow wither. ;-)

Ed,

Who cares? There are lots of 3rd party software, some completely free,
that can deal with spyware. I like XP, but I didn't install it because I
was worried about spyware. Plus, it it's that good, why would MS release
an anti-spyware program?

I prefer to only have to run anti-spyware apps every couple of weeks rather
than every couple of days.
Spyware and crudware writers are always becoming more and more creative in
finding ways to get their crap onto your system without your approval.

You never know. Things change with beta's. Originally Office 12 (Publisher
12) was slated for Longhorn Windows only, but is now going to work on
Windows XP and Longhorn)

Why does ANY OS have an Anti-Spyware program Mike? Because it's IMPOSSIBLE
to be 100% secure, and it's IMPOSSIBLE to write a 100% completely secure OS.

They do indeed share the same file format. The goal is that even the next
versions of Publisher are to also share the same file format. But we can't
count that egg till it hatches.

Brian,

You counted that egg a couple of years ago!

Windows 2000 and it's offspring have security issues which are not
enabled in win 98/Se/Me.

Please feel free to delude yourself.

I'll stick with an operating system that is supported by updates.

I don't, but it's very obvious from your postings you do.
