Outbox 'bug'. Mail won't send (workaround)

This is for Outlook 2003 on WXP Pro (MS Office SBE with SP2)
I found a thread dating back several months, but the answers I sought were
not there. I did some testing on my problem, which has only sprouted up in
the last few days.
If I create a message or reply to a message after I open Outlook, it sits in
the Outbox. There are no errors on Send/Receive. It just sits there.
Resending, marking as read, unread, praying to the gods...nothing worked.
First thing I noticed is that the message is BOLD but not ITALIC in the
Outbox. Then I noticed something really odd.
Outlook 2003 SBE places mail in categories by date. Usually when you create
a mail, or receive a mail that day, it says DATE: TODAY. If I create mail
it says DATE: NONE. The same mail will say NONE in the 'date sent' column as
well (rather than todays date). I can create message after message and they
will all fall into the DATE: NONE category.
My workaround was very odd. For example, if I have a message that I need to
reply to, I open the message and hit REPLY. Once I get the new window open I
go back to my Outbox and select one of the DATE:NONE emails. With one of the
bugged emails highlighted, I then compose my message in the previous reply
window that I opened, and hit send. This email will (don't ask me why) have
DATE: TODAY and todays proper date in the 'date sent' column in the Outbox.
If I hit SEND/RECEIVE at this point I can watch the email disappear fromt he
Outbox (while all the other bugged emails continue to take up real estate in
the outbox until I delete them).
I personally hate this workaround, but its the only way that I can get mail
out anymore.

Help!
