Outline Numbering and Indent

Sean

I have a simple need, I'm doing an outline style document in the format of
1.10.1.2. etc. My requirement is that each level needs to be indented.
1. Level One
1.1. Level Two
1.1.1. Level Three

Is there a way, that I can type "1. Level One" hit return, hit tab, and get
the outline to INDENT AND change the numbering.

Someone has suggested:
In Word, click on Tools | AutoCorrect Options | AutoFormat As You Type |
check the "Set left- and first-indent with tabs and backspaces" box | OK.

which indents for me but does not promote and demote the numbering. (It
gives me:
2. Level Two
instead of
1.1. Level Two

Seems like a logical thing to ask for.

Sure. You would use Outline Numbering. Type in 1. Level One, then go to
Format->
Bullets and Numbering, select the Outline Numbered tab and select the
desired style (in my Word you'd probably select the 3rd from the top-left).
You can click Customize if you'd like to customize it and click OK. Then,
like you said, hit Enter to go to the next entry, but then hit tab to indent
or Shift-Tab to outdent.

Please let us know if you have any difficulties.

Hope this helps,
Nick
