Outlook 2000 OK, Outlook XP (2002) not!

Hello

Can anyone help me with a wierd problem. I'm connecting
to our company Win2000 exchange server over a VPN link
(vpn from my XP machine to a vigor 2600 router) - ADSL at
both ends. I can connect fine in Outlook 2000 - it finds
the exchange server quickly and away it goes!
If however I use Outlook 2002 (xp I think they call it)
then it fails to connect, but it will confirm the
username (check name) if I put in the exchange name and
part of the main name, but from there on it keeps failing
to connect telling me the exchange server is not
available. I have the IP of the exchange server in my
HOSTS file and can ping it fine. I have installed all
Office XP patches to no avail!

anyone know whats going on ???!!
