Outlook 2000 POP suddenly downloads all Inbox messages again

This is a problem that a client of mine is having. She's
using Outlook 2000 on a laptop accessing an Exchange 2000
Server as a POP client. Suddenly Outlook starts
downloading every message in her inbox (quite a few), as
if a new Profile has been created.

I've seen this happen before but never tracked down the
cause. Any ideas out there?
